Our History

The Cathedral of Love Community Church (COLCC) was founded by the late Dr. Bishop Morris K. Baxter and Lady Lilly Baxter in 1978. Hailing from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Morris was brought up in a Christian home and found Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age, which led to him working in his father’s church. As Morris continued to grow in stature, he also continued to grow in God while his reputation grew rapidly as being a Man of God on fire with superb leadership and integrity. Morris and his wife, Lilly moved their family to Willingboro, NJ after purchasing their first home. One night the Lord sent him a dream that he would open a church in his community of Willingboro, NJ. The prayer manifested as the Cathedra of Love COGIC in which was to ensure that love was always at the center of the ministry and that no matter where you were from or what you had done in the past, at this church you would be loved.
The first services were held in their home in Willingboro with the first members being Morris’s wife, Lilly, and their three (3) daughters, Tracey, Trina, and Tricia. Tramaine would come along later in the years. As a result of Bishop’s dynamic style of preaching and teaching, the congregation quickly grew and their home could no longer accommodate their growing church. In June 1981, COL was in position to purchase property in Willingboro, New Jersey. Bishop Baxter would lead his church to become the first Black Pentecostal church in the community. The church motto was founded on “Stop God if you Can!” In 1989, the congregation would march into their new church home, miraculously without a mortgage and this would forever be known as the church where the doors swing on the hinges of love.
Over the years of ministry, Bishop and Lady Lilly Baxter would launch the Cathedral of Love Christian Academy (COLCA), Cathedral of Love Bible Institute (COLBI) as well as the Cathedral of Love Bookstore. After 40 years of faithful service as Pastor of the Cathedral of Love, Bishop Baxter and Lady Baxter retired from their service in 2019.
Bishop Baxter was called home to be with the Lord in September 2023. While extremely difficult for the church to navigate through, Mother Baxter was determined to see the legacy of her husband live on in the community as well as at the Cathedral of Love. After some trial periods of hosting interim leaders during the Cathedral’s search to find Bishop’s successor, Mother Baxter was guided by the Holy Spirit to nominate George G. Livingston, Jr. as pastor.
On July 20th, 2024, George G. Livingston, Jr. accepted the call to become the Pastor at the Cathedral of Love Community Church. As a faithful and loyal son of the Cathedral, Pastor Livingston serves as a genuine servant leader to the people of God because of his deep love for Christ. The Cathedral of Love Community Church continues to allow its doors to swing on the hinges of love and is still known today as a beacon of light.
